Extraordinary General Meeting of the Friends of Lambeth Palace Library

Thursday 25 November at 4pm, Lambeth Palace Library.

The meeting will be followed by tea and a lecture (at 5.30pm) entitled Codex and Colour: the pigments of Lambeth Palace manuscripts, by Professor Richard Gameson (Durham University).

One of the most striking aspects of medieval manuscripts is their ravishing colours. Scientific advances mean that it is now possible, using non-invasive techniques, to identify the pigments that were used to produce the illuminations in question. This lecture will report the findings from recent investigations of illuminations in Lambeth Palace Library, explaining the processes that were used, summarising the pigments that were identified, and contextualising them within broader patterns of medieval and renaissance painting.

Details

Thursday 25 November at 4pm, Lambeth Palace Library (NB new building entrance on Lambeth Palace Road), 15 Lambeth Palace Road, London SE1 7JT.

Please note that this event will take place in the Bancroft Room in the new building. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time given below to allow time to take the lift to the top.
